Dans les Alpes, c’est go big or go home ->

Actually, most highschools in France don't have a dress code, I mine you could go in shorts and and crop top if you wanted to. For parties, it doesn't happen that much before college. I agree with social life inside the school, when we have free time we find a place to talk inside the school and yeah :)

I was talking about private highschools, for the dress code. Again, it also really depends on where you are. Most of the teens I tutor have some sort of a dress code in their middle and highschools, even though they’re all going to public school.

Regarding the parties : I started partying in 4ème ( 14 yo ) tbh and it was pretty common around where I grew up.

I'm going on exchange to a boarding school in France soon, and i was wondering what the social culture is like outside of school? A lot of parties, etc.? And do you happen to know if they wear uniforms? Thanks a lot! x

Hi!

I was attending a boarding school for seven years ( through middle school and high school ) so the information I’m about to give you is based on my experience and the school I was attending.

French teens go to school Monday through Friday, most of the time from 8 to 5pm, sometime 6, except for Wednesday were they get out at noon. It doesn’t leave that much room for social life outside the school. Depending on what grade and what “section” you’re in, you might also have a significant work load, meaning people are studying instead of hanging out

Most of the “social life” will be happening in the school. I had my best-friend as a roommate for the last years and I got along with a lot of people in my boarding school so it was pretty cool.

BUT yes, parties do happen. A lot ? I don’t really know what “a lot” would mean, depends on your perspective and where you’re from I guess. I did an exchange for a year in Canada and they partied less than we did back at my school, though. It will depend on your school and on what this school is here for. Mine was a private, catholic school and only 1/8 of the students were boarders. They offered that because it was located in a rural and touristic area meaning a lot of parents were working in the tourism industry and didn’t really have time to be dealing with transportation to and back from school every day, especially during winter ( + snow, + long distance because rural area ). Parties were happening but so were train and bus rides to go to those parties and most of them were either all-nighters or sleep-wherever-you-can-oh-that-couch-looks-confy-whatever-I’m-too-drunk-to-care.

Oh and we were also “partying” on Wednesdays afternoons but I don’t really recommend that ->

Most schools won’t have a uniform but they’ll have some sort of a dress code. My school was pretty strict : no spaghetti straps, no short skirts or short shorts, no flip-flops, no sweat pants except on P.E. days…

If you have more questions I’d be happy to answer them ;)

Tbh I’m in the “let’s pretend Fifty Shades of Grey doesn’t even exist” fandom.

edit : TSA says it is.
